How to put a Yamaha R1 engine in a Toyota Scion IQ

Welcome to the worlds first Toyota IQ

fitted with a Yamaha YZF-R1 Engine.

I started the conversion on January 1st 2017 and completed on December 2018.

Some revision and improvements have been made since the car has been driven and tested in the past couple months.

A high standard of build quality was always my main priority which is why it took almost 2 years to complete !

Fabrication

I give a detailed description of how the conversion was done. Most of the parts were hand fabricated by me including modifications to the R1 engine.

Upgrades

Lots of new parts were used to get the project completed. New seats, suspension, wheels, and hundreds of other parts were needed to complete the project.

My 2 year project.. with some on-going modifications

As with anything that has never been done before this project involved a lot of manufacturing custom parts and testing if they worked as designed. I created this site to help someone else with their R1 Bike Engine car project.

Much of the time was spent designing, fabricating, measuring, re-measuring  and finally installing parts, only to do the process over again until it was just right. The engine and transmission were in and out of the car multiple times just to get the position of the engine in the best possible place.

Navigating this site

This website is designed by task. Each task has a page and a link from the main menu.

Best viewed using Google Chrome

There are  Hyperlinks  that will link to another page that is relevant to the one you are viewing

The Blue Arrow box on the bottom right of each page will take you back to the top of the same page.

Many of the conversion tasks were done simultaneously mostly due to keeping the build on schedule or while waiting on additional parts or materials to be delivered, or maybe I am just a bit busy  to actually work on the IQ.

I will try as much as possible to show the considerable effort it takes to undertake a project like this, and the enjoyment I got out of building it.

I have tried to maintain high standards within my skill set and the outcome was always meant to be something that was race inspired but keeping to the  original build quality of the Toyota IQ.

I hope you enjoy visiting my site and share my vision of building and driving a Toyota IQ with a Yamaha R1 Engine!
